The Church guidebook

guidebookcover tempTo mark the 600th anniversary of St Michael’s Church Coxwold the Local History Society and Parochial Church Council produced an illustrated Guidebook with accompanying visitor notes.

The Guidebook explains the features of the building and its association with Newburgh Priory.  Richly illustrated with high quality photographs and produced at Design Farm Studio, the book tells of the mystery of the ancient Saxon Church and its Norman successor, the founding of Newburgh Priory and of the monks who lived there, and of the building of the current Church between 1420 and 1430.  You will learn about the fascinating history of the building, its striking funerary monuments, its bells, unique medieval windows and many more hidden gems.  It is an indispensible accompaniment to a visit of the Church and a memento to take home.  It is on display and is for sale in the Church.

Our current challenge is to keep this Church going for the future so that it can continue to serve the parish as a place for worship, baptisms, weddings funerals and quiet reflection.

During the Covid-19 lock-downs the Church remained open every day, and a surprising number of people said how much they valued visiting.  If you have not yet done so, why not take a look for yourself?

You can read more about the Church here.
